Screen Shots of Search Engine Results

What gives you power on the net? Page one listings, of course, and lots of 'em.

These pictures are all screen shots captured with Paint Shop Pro, of real searches by my visitors, taken from the internet, in which one of the sites that I have built comes up at the top of the search engine results.

This page was created following an article I wrote about the Tsunami Disaster Appeal for the Distant Healer website. The page was uploaded to the net in early January 2005, and submitted to Google.com for indexing.
What was interesting was that my hosting and search stats indicated the page was indexed and showing up at item 3 on page 1 for over a quarter of a million results in less than 15 hours.

That was above the BBC, just about any Government site, and most of the Charities or Newspaper websites dealing with the tsunami. The only ones above me were the DEC organization (The Disasters Emergency Committee) and Oxfam. I was quite happy to concede top billing to both of those.
Obviously, I was blown away by this, and I started to want to tell someone. Anyone. Unfortunately, there was nobody within earshot that gave a monkeys. And even if they did, none of them, probably, would have realized the significance of that.

The screen captures here were taken between 10-19 Jan 2005 and should by no means be considered comprehensive. In fact the delay was only because I was faced with the dilemma that these stats are only available for a limited time, so even if I told someone, the information would become unverifiable, and therefore worthless, in a very short time.

This led to the screen capture idea. I have produced this page to demonstrate with real pictures, proof if you like, that I can reproduce these types of results over and over again. As you will see, I haven't even bothered with all the results that turn up between 2 and 20. Quite frankly, if I did, it would take all day to download them. I just hope that this is sufficient proof that I can do-the-talk.........

Search Term: The Asian Tsunami

The distant healer site is one of my latest projects, as it deals with my own healing practice. Being a large part of my life, I keep a close eye on what people are searching for, as this bears a relation to the types of people I am likely to meet and the ailments they present with, at the Healing Centre. All of the screen shots that follow are actual captures of real searches done by my visitors. A logging service allows me to go over these search requests and recreate the same search so that I am aware of where I come in the results list. This one shows Distant Healer at page 1, number 1 of over 2000. Link:www.distanthealer.co.uk/tsunami_donations_appeal.htm

Search Term: Does cerebral cortex connect with sexual desire

This search points to the Chakra pages which describes how our energy centres are connected to all our emotions. Link:www.distanthealer.co.uk/chakra.htm

Search Term: Absent healer

Dogpile is a MetaCrawler which chases down the best results from the Internet's top search engines, including Google, Yahoo!, Ask Jeeves, About, FindWhat, LookSmart and displays them by relevance. Link:www.distanthealer.co.uk

Search Term: Guillain Barre Syndrome

Yahoo's another one it can be quite hard to get on if you don't pay. Thankfully, as I didn't have $299 to hand over at the time, I found a way to get in by the back door, which used Yahoo's partnership with other search engines, in which they share results. Link:www.distanthealer.co.uk/guillain_barre_syndrome.htm

Search Term: Metaphysical healing properties of malachite

Got the top spot on page 1 of MSN UK for this search on healing with crystals. Link:www.distanthealer.co.uk/crystals_healing_2.htm

Search Term: Lymphatic congestion

Okay, okay, I know this is a big image. However, it demonstrates the added search result of the extra page which is tabbed in slightly. Google does this when there are two pages on a site which have equal high relevancy to the search. I'm more than pleased with this result because, when you think of it, this is a medical term and subject, which means I would normally expect to be below the huge medical websites, such as the NHS or BUPA etc. but I'm not, the information here is deemed valuable to the search and so I get top(ish) billing. Link:www.distanthealer.co.uk/sinus_sinusitis.htm

Search Term: Metaphysical healing properties

It's nice to see Netscape get a look in now and then. I know this looks a bit odd, but the image would have been unnecessarily large without. I have cut out the number 1 result for this search and pasted it over the sponsored links, then saved the resulting smaller image. Notice how Netscape gets much of it's search information from Google. Link:www.distanthealer.co.uk/crystals_healing_1.htm

Search Term: Teenagers dealing with a parent who self harms

This 'self harm' article regularly gets a higher position than The National Self Harm Network, The Self Harm Alliance, the NHS, and many other sites that should logically outperform the Distant Healer site. They all contain the same valuable information, but that's where the similarity ends. Attention to detail means everything!! Link:www.distanthealer.co.uk/self_harm.htm

Search Term: Post war trauma on veteran soldiers

Not much to say except that this result is number 1 of 67,000. Link:www.distanthealer.co.uk/PTSD_war_trauma.htm

Search Term: Twisted lower back sciatica

Page 3 of Google. Okay not as good as some of the other screen captures on this page, but have you got any idea how much competition there is for 'Back ache problems' on the net? Link:www.distanthealer.co.uk/backpain_backtips.htm

Search Term: Self harming, elderly

Another good result from Yahoo for the 'Self Harm' article. Link:www.distanthealer.co.uk/self_harm.htm

Search Term: Spinal Touch Therapy

As a Spinal Touch Therapist, I'm delighted that this article regularly comes up near the top of the search results. However, the downside is when people phone up for treatments from Norwich, when I live near Bristol. Nevertheless, if it encourages them to find a therapist nearer to home, then the information is valuable for that. Link:www.distanthealer.co.uk/spinal_touch.htm

Search Term: Coping with symptoms of grief

Knowing that healing is such a good way of allowing the emotions to settle following a bereavement, I am pleased to see so many people finding this article. Link:www.distanthealer.co.uk/grief.htm

Search Term: Oxfam America tsunami disaster appeal

The tsunami is going to go down as one of the biggest natural disasters in recorded history. Link:www.distanthealer.co.uk/tsunami_donations_appeal.htm

http://www.alisondobbins.co.uk - website search results

Search Term: Chiropodist in Bristol

Just to prove I also put the same amount of effort into the sites that I build for others, here are a few from a recent commission. This work started from scratch, buying the domain name, building the site, getting it hosted, uploading it and generally managing it afterwards. Alison is a very busy therapist in the Bristol area. Her site is at www.alisondobbins.co.uk

Search Term: Chiropodist gift voucher

As a practicing chiropodist, this search brought up Alison's Gift Voucher page. Link:www.alisondobbins.co.uk/gift_vouchers.htm

Search Term: Reflexology gift vouchers, Bristol

This one was a bit further down the chain, at position 21, which is the top of page 3 for Google at default settings. However, this is where the visitor clicked from. What's interesting is that, everyone local knows Bristol is crawling with Reflexologists, and to be at number 21 when there are over 5 thousand other pages vieing for the same place, can't be a bad result. Link:www.alisondobbins.co.uk/price_guide.htm

http://www.online-tutorials.com - website search results

Search Term: Automatic set-up of Outlook Express

This was always going to be a hugely ambitious project. Online-Tutorials is due for a revamp, but it's search results have always been, and remain, very impressive. Link:www.online-tutorials.com

Search Term: Booting in safe mode in XP

Getting onto MSN always used to be a struggle unless you had a big wallet. This little gem should prove otherwise with a number one spot for an XP problem. Persistence seems to be the key with MSN. Link:www.online-tutorials.com

Search Term: Windows 98 shutdown problem

Sorry, I've done it again. This image shows OTC at position 2, but to show it in the smallest sized image, I cut out the first two places and pasted them over the top of the sponsored link and position one. By leaving the first line of the OTC entry at the bottom, I'm hoping you can see exactly how much the copied image has been overlaid. Link:www.online-tutorials.com

Search Term: Windows XP safe mode- Black screen with white ........

Yet another Windows XP safe mode query! Are you looking Microsoft? Link:www.online-tutorials.com

http://www.webshowcase.uk.com - website search results

Search Term: Antique crockery

Webshowcase was my first project. This was the one I used to teach myself marketing, HTML coding, desktop publishing, graphic design, cgi scripting and java. Link:www.webshowcase.uk.com/antiques.htm

Search Term: Domestic electrical goods CO-OP

Webshowcase grew into over a 100 page internet mall. It has proved to be very popular and even produces an income. It'll never buy me a National winner, but it more than pays it's way. Link:www.webshowcase.uk.com/electricalgoods.htm

Search Term: Suppliers of kettles to guest houses

Well, it seems we buy just about everything from the French these days. Our electric, our own water as well as their bottled water, their apples and wine, and now, even our phones and internet time. The least they can do is give me a link! Don't you think? Hey presto, there we go, number 3! Link:www.webshowcase.uk.com/crockery.htm

Search Term: Otherland toystore

This part I find strange! Otherland is an internet toy company in the UK for which the WebShowcase is an affiliate. That means if someone buys a toy through my link, then I get a few pence of the price of the toy by way of compensation and introduction. In the rightful pecking order, Otherland should have come first. And, I'm not sure whether this is true, but it seems to show that good old basic HTML coding will outperform, java scripting, css, macromedia flash and just about any other convoluted browser language devised, when it comes to search engines. You've heard the motto, "Keep it Simple Stupid" or KISS for short? Well, plain old HTML will allow you to do just that and still do everything your site needs. Oh, yes, and search engines love it! Link:www.webshowcase.uk.com/toysandgames.htm

Search Term: Improvements for UK supermarkets

Somebody at Yahoo must like me...........or feels sorry for me, I haven't decided yet. See position 1 and 3. Link:www.webshowcase.uk.com/supermarkets.htm

I'm afraid I don't have time to do anymore and I realise this page is already huge, but I hope you found the wait worthwhile. Afterall, a website is a fairly large financial commitment. Placing a job like that in the hands of someone who doesn't know how to do the indexing aspect of it, is pretty much like vanity publishing. It costs a fortune and nobody is ever going to read it. It's useful to know that your Site Designer has also done his apprentiship with the search engines, and understands how to make them WORK FOR YOU AS WELL AS YOUR CUSTOMERS!
