Web pages can be as plain or as dynamic as you want and most Web sites typically use graphics in the design, to identify, and to navigate. The only things to consider are, will the page load before the user disappears, is an image essential to the plot, is it in keeping with the rest of the site, and does it enhance the users enjoyment? One can hardly imagine Web pages without images now, they add value and interest. Some of the images you'll want to consider include background images, header titles or logos, navigation buttons, divider bars, and photographs or spot art.
I use multiple graphics and design programs and formats, working in art and photography or designing my own graphics from scratch to suit the subject of the Web site and its imagery.
